Magabala Books | Partnerships in Focus

Over the last few years, Broome-based Magabala Books has raised its profile with philanthropic foundations and potential donors.

Magabala Books is Australia’s leading Indigenous publisher and one of the most remote publishing houses in the world. It’s recognised as a producer of quality Indigenous Australian literature.

Magabala’s strategy, to seek support from the philanthropic sector for specific projects and new initiatives, is meeting essential funding shortfalls and providing a catalyst to expand their reach and grow their education and development capabilities.

We spoke with CEO Anna Moulton, Chair Edie Wright, author and illustrator Brenton E Mckenna, a recipient of Magabala’s Australian Indigenous Creator Scholarships, and Spinifex Trust’s Sophie Chamberlain about fundraising in a remote area, and why partnerships between the arts and donors, philanthropists and business are so important.
